in the column where there is a little supplication to be recited (eg. at ayah 30 of Surah Mulk, Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): “Tell me! If (all) your water were to sink away, who then can supply you with flowing (spring) water?” next to the black star is written Ameen Allaahu Rabb ul Alamin) There are a few of them at certain verses of the Quraan and I’ve been told we have to recite the relevant supplication next to the black star when we come to those verses, my question is where did these supplications come from because as I’ve seen in other Quraans (ie. Uthmani script) these supplications are not in those copies, so is this a bid’ah ya sheikh? Kindly confirm as it has been bugging me for a while, may Allaah reward you abundantly Aameen.

Some of them are based on weak hadeeth and others are based on what some scholars thought that would be appropriate. Therefore, we shouldn’t say them unless we are sure that there is an authentic hadeeth backing them up. As for the ayah mentioned, it is not permissible to say that as this is a warning from Allah and not a question to be answered by the people listening.

In the persian font Quraans (the one I have at home, and was brought up on since learning arabic in madrassa, which were printed in South Africa) there are certain verses which have a black star..
