ANSWER:

You must not follow him in his mistake, rather alert him by saying SubhanAllah, and if you are a woman then by clapping. If he still continues then you must not follow him and make your tashahhud and finish your prayer or wait in the sitting position until he sits and finishes giving salam and then you give your salam.

If the Prayer Leader stands up for a 4th rakat of Maghrib should we follow or begin tashahhud? My imam mistakenly stood up for a 4th rakat for Maghrib last night and I followed behind knowingly because I didn’t know if I was sinful for breaking congregation. What should I do now and what should I do if it happens again?
