Thanks giving is a feast that is related to the non Muslims and it is not permissible for us to participate with them in it even if they are angry with us for not attending. We have to make it clear to all that our religion comes first and is a priority. This doesn’t mean that we can’t compensate them by visiting them in a different occasion
