Drowning an animal that is harmful is permissible, and Allah knows best.

I saw my friend using rat trap in his shop and next morning if the rat is traped inside (small cage) then he took it and dip the trap into water till the rat dies or open the tap till the rat dies. Is it ok or I should tell him to stop this?
