Abu Huraira reported that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“When a person while reciting the Quran reaches the point of Sajdah in the
surah and he does a sajdah then the Shaitaan cries and separates himself from that person and wails” O Disaster! When he was commanded to do Sajdah, he performed sajdah, thus for him there are the gardens of jannah. When I was
commanded to do sajdah I did not do sajdah, and for me there is The Fire.”
(Sahih Muslim)
It is not mandatory to offer Sujood attilawa and hence you can continue without offering it.
The hadeeth is authentic. However, there are a number of other hadeeths stating that it is not mandatory to offer this sajdah as in the hadeeth of Zaid Ibn Thabit where he recited Suratul Najm and the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam didn’t prostrate there to show that it is not mandatory. Also the hadeeth of Omer where he did this in Jumah prayer and he told the people that he did that on purpose so that they would learn that it is not mandatory.
