ANSWER:

Zakat can’t be given except to those who qualify for it such as poor and needy. If they qualify, you can give it to them in their hands and if they wish, they can pay you back your loans or they can keep the money. 

I have lent someone some money and they are struggling to pay it back but still requesting loans from time to time. Are they eligible to receive these loans from my zakat so that they don’t have to pay it back, even if they have a job/earning?

I have to pay my zakat al maal this week. I will give some of it to my uncle’s widow & kids who are poor and sick and live in the countryside in North Africa. However I don’t see them as I live in Europe…my mum is only going there in the summer. Can I give my mum the money now and she will give it to them in July or August?
