The hadeeth is weak and therefore, you shouldn’t do that or restrict it by 10. You can offer salutation to the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam as many times as you wish throughout the day and night.

I believe that some years back someone told me that after every fajr and maghrib prayers it is good to ask Allah to bless the Prophet(saw) ten times. I think I was told either to say,..”Allahumma salli alaa muhammad wa ala aali muhammad kama sallayta ala ibrahima wa ala aali ibrahima innaka hameedum majeed…etc” OR it was “Allahumma salli wa sallim ala sayyidina wa nabiyyina muhammad” ten times. I want to know, is this from the sunnah and if it is then what are the virtues/rewards behind this.
