Excel in pleasing Allah and ask Him to make you better than what they say about you and do not tell them about your sins or how sinful you are. These are whispers of satan to make you leave a lot of the good you are doing. 

I am a practicing Muslim to the best of my knowledge, but people do respect me and honor me beyond what I do in every locality I found myself. And because of that, I’m trying my best to practice good because almost all they look up to me which I told them I’m not and never perfect I’m just trying my best.
