ANSWER:

Abu Bakr was complaining that his waist wrapper used to loosen up and go beyond his ankles though he lifts up all the time! The one who gave him the exemption of pride was the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam! Your friend has no one to give him such exemption! 

I advised a brother at the masjid not to allow his trousers to go below his ankle and quoted a hadith to support this, and in response he narrated the incident involving Abu Bakr and claimed that, like for him, this is ok as long as the intention is not pride. How should a person best respond to this point of view please?
