With the knowledge that Allah blessed me with, I can tell whether this person is a genuine scholar or a “want to be” scholar. One can identify a real scholar by his fatwa and his efforts to spread Islam. Also, by the recommendations of real scholars to him and the good words they put for him. He should be known to be fearful of Allah.
