ANSWER:

They have more rights and duties but both sides deserve same respect. The paternal relatives have an edge when it comes to inheritance and guardianship in marriages etc. 

Does Islam differentiate between paternal and maternal relatives (except for guardianship and inheritance)? Like are paternal relatives more deserving of respect and kinship?
