You must maintain ties with all the relatives that are mahram to you and those of the same gender who are related to you from your father and mother’s side. 

Do we have to maintain ties with every single relative or just most of them?

I don’t spend much time with my family (other than my parents and siblings) I’d like to know if I have to call my grandma,uncles,aunties every now and then or is it okay if I don’t call them at all but when I see them somewhere I talk to them and say سلم. Is that considered as breaking ties? What if I don’t see them for years/months but I don’t hate them
