Listening to him is a good deed and reading in the Quran while he is reciting it is also permissible as long as you are not praying behind him.

Alhamdulilah in Ramadan a lot of muslims complete the recitation of the Quran. Is this a must or can one recite as much as he is able to do.

It is not a must, but reciting it as much as one can is definitely recommended. The minimum amount required in other months is to recite it once every month as directed by our Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam.
