Can I pray nawafil prayers during the day, with intentions for istighfar, thanking Allah etc.?

My grandfather prays Dhuhr and Asr by him self but he prays it aloud (we can hear him clearly) its like he’s praying Isha. Is it wrong or is it ok?

I was in between two prostrations, sitting. I then said rabighfirli twice, but on the second occasion I realised I probably didn’t say it correctly while I was already going down for the second sujood. Whilst I was doing this I corrected myself and not previously whilst I was in the sitting position. Do I have to repeat the salaah?
