You can have separate accommodation if you can afford it. However, you should always treat her respectfully and talk to her in a kind manner. In such cases, try to learn how to block all of her negative comments and abusive words as if she did not say any of them and let it pass through without touching your heart.

Beloved Sheikh, would you please advise me what to do if one’s mother is using offensive, foul and abusive words and also curses a lot just because son is not willing to shave/trim beard and not willing to do any haram job and other unIslamic acts, as mother is extremely materialistic and has very little interests/not at all towards the Deen of Allah. Can one live separately in such a situation? Because this is causing great time trouble even in pleasing Allah!

I understand fully that the mother is your door to Jannah but I am in a difficult situation. I was adopted as an infant. In this case would my birth mother or my adoptive mother be considered my door to Jannah? I understand I should respect both just as being human beings. What exactly a wife should do when the mother in law is not letting his son to take his wife along with him though he s capable of taking or somewhere outing when he comes from his workplace and the son is listening what his mother is asking him to do?
