Lying to defend yourself is permissible.

A few days ago someone on the phone threatened me to come to the area where I live with many of his friends/gang members. If I lied to try and make peace with him was there a sin on me?

There is a hadith with a dua’a to say after eating a meal that forgives previous sins. And another hadtih about praying two rakah thinking of nothing but Allah.I am wondering would this apply to even people persisting in sin or addicted to something? And would all previous sins be forgiven even if they were millions?
