When someone did a favor to the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, he used to return that favor with more or with a gift!

I just read a hadeeth now on a twitter handle. I needed to know what does it mean. “It was a habit of prophet(pbuh)that if someone did him a good, in turn he loved to repay him with something more excellent” (Muslim 990).

What is the source (i.e. which hadith book) and classification of this hadith please? “It has been narrated from Ibn Umar, that the Prophet (Peace & Blessings be upon him) said, “He who speaks without first giving salaam, then do not answer him (to what he has to say).” Also, if it is authentic, then how should we apply it?
