The Surah in the first two rakah is sunnah but if a Muslim skips it, the prayer is valid. And if he adds a surah in the last two rakah, this is permissible.

In the first 2 rakas of any salah, surah Fatiha is recited and then it is sunnah to recite a surah. In the last 2 rakas of any salah, only surah Fatiha is recited and the sunnah is not to recite any surah after that. Is this correct?

If I’m uncertain for example in salah that whether I’m on 3rd rakat or fourth rakat. Islam says to skip 3rd rakat because I should not pay attention to doubts after being certain about something. But Islam also says to pray 3rd rakat so I could go with what I’m certain about. Could you please tell me which way is correct?
