Khul’a is an agreement between a man and his wife to separate for a sum of money the wife gives to the husband. If he doesn’t take money and agrees for separation without any financial compensation, this is divorce and its Iddah is 3 menstruations. The woman is considered a wife until she finishes these cycles. He has the right to get her back without her consent during this period.

Therefore, if he is taking his dowry back or any other financial compensation, this is Khul’a and you are not his wife anymore the moment he takes the money.

You can marry if you want after you finish one menstruation.
