ANSWER:

Making a wakira (feast) where you serve food, without any haram activities like free mixing, music etc is permissible. However, it’s not permissible to hold gathering to recite Qur’an. 

Is it necessary to hold a gathering with food, etc and inviting people to read surah Yasin or make dua when moving into a new house asking for protection?
