I am interested in taking part in Muay thai as I wish to learn how to defend myself, I would not take part in bowing infront of the instructor or any other haram thing. Muay thai allow blows to the head however however participants can wear gloves and pads which can offer protection from strikes and the face is not hit. Is it halal for me to take part in Muay thai?

If you avoid the face and your opponent avoids it as well and there is no harm on you, this is permissible.
