ANSWER:

Because the Prophet salla allahu alaihi wa sallam had told us to say this duaa on the hope that we would get his intercession.

The million dollar question is: did the prophet salla allahu alaihi wa sallam order us or recommended us to ask Allah that we get our Prophet’s intercession?

The answer is no!

If it is paradise you want, ask Allah that directly! 

Sheikh I found the following answer from your fb page : QUESTION: Can we ask Allah to give us the intercession of Prophet(S) on the Day of Judgement?
