ANSWER:

It is not permissible to join them in any of these celebrations or gatherings. Though it is not a religious festival, it is part of their customs and tradition which Muslims are ordered to refrain from. 

Shaikh, I messaged you the other day about joining Christmas with a non Muslim family (my family) and was wondering if it is permissible to join them on thanksgiving instead because it is not a religious holiday. How about New Years?
