This is forbidden and an innovation and it can easily mount to shirk and associating others with Allah.

Once a difficulty struck one of my relatives, I told them to seek help from Allah alone. They told me that the friends of Allah are closer to Allah and they prefer the wasilah (I do not really know what they mean by such) of ‘I forget who’. I am sceptical on their customary belief…We are from Mauritius…I believe Indian origin…

In our region, a lot of people believe on the a term called “zaicha” for marriae proposals. In this practice a person (aalim) takes girl’s and boy’s name along with date of births and mother’s maiden name and using their “knowledge of stars” they find the result.
