These calamities are a sign of Allah’s love. Our Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam was the most sever among the people in such calamities and he told us that the people are tested in accordance to the level of their Iman.

Allah tells us: “O you who believe! Verily, among your spouses and your children there are enemies for you (i.e. may stop you from the obedience of Allah), therefore beware of them!” If she fears him more than her fear of Allah, this is Shirk and she is in great danger of losing her Islam.
