I want to know is it necessary to read long surahs in tahajud as i dont memorize the long surahs ? so can i recite 2 or 3 short surahs in one rakat to prolong our nifel prayer?

I join dhur/asr/esha prayer at 3rd rakah with Imam, after Imam finish his prayer. the rest two rakah I continue with reciting only surah fatiha or fatiha with zammil surah.
