I am shocked by your your question. You are afraid for her feelings but not afraid to commit an act of kufr!

A Muslim must not participate in other’s festivals let alone buy them idols! You must not take that idol neither pay for it. Tell her straight that Muslims beleive in one God that is above us. You shouldn’t be befriending her and must befriend only Muslims.

During Diwali I and my Hindu friend were invited to someone’s home. My Hindu friend had purchased an idol of Ganesh as a gift. She had said that we will share the cost of the idol, out of fear that she would feel bad I did not say anything. Will it be permissible for me to give the money for the idol? IF not how can i refuse so that she does not feel bad?
