QUESTION: My mother is very evil unfortunately and tries to do everything she can to hurt me because old personal issues we had that I moved on from and she didn’t. I’m afraid if I invite her to my wedding that she would try to sabotage it or embarrass me or my in-laws. Can I choose not to invite her?

QUESTION: Where does it say in the Qur’an and authentic ahadeeth that we cannot defend ourselves or clarify things against our parents, if/when THEY are wrong? You said to admit and say “I am wrong”, even when we are right. Wouldn’t that be lying as well? I understand not disrespecting part but where do you or the scholars get not defending ourselves and just be silent part? Where is the daleel?

QUESTION: Can mother kick out adult abusive son? I am single 70 year old mother. My son, 48, is single and unemployed. He moved in with me about a year ago. He has mood swings, questions Islam and is verbally & emotionally abusive to me. He refuses to see a sheikh or a doctor. Is it haram if I kick him out ?

This involves riba (interest), which he justifies as a business practice. My mom has asked him to stop, but he is not doing so. He will not be convinced that it is a major sin. What should I do?

ANSWER: As long as you tried to make amend and she is refusing, keep your distance and send her salam every now and then and the sin is on her.

QUESTION: My dad wants to take a loan from the bank for my sister’s schooling in Canada for a week then he’ll return the money and pay the interest but we told him it’s haram. He needs the money to be in his account to apply for her student visa then he’ll return it without spending and he doesn’t have the total amount needed in your bank to get the study permit. Is this permissible?
