My parents has been divorced and dont live together and dont have contact with him for a period of time as we fear fitnah. I want to marry a woman and her family and my family is pleased except his father. He wants to contact my father to see how he is. I know by this there will be fitnah again and cause problems. I wanted to know. Is her father acting correctly even if pleased by my imaan ?

ANSWER: It’s his right to see the family he is giving his daughter in. If a man is not in contact with his own father, most likely he won’t honor anything else in life and such a person can’t be a practicing Muslim when he knows that his father is his middle gate to paradise!!

My sister is having her wedding next month InshaAllah and she is willing to not cover her head during the function. The event will be completely segregated and we will put up signs and notices prohibiting photography. I would like to know in case someone manages to snap a picture would we be held accountable for it ? What is your recommendation for such an event ?

ANSWER: You must not allow them to carry the phones in the hall. There are security ladies that have metal detectors and prevent anyone from bringing their phones with them.

Sheikh i’ve been adopted by my aunt and she brought me up kindly,but now she is saying things which hurt me and not good for my mental health as I’m 22 now,i even treat her as i treat my real mother,are her rights equal to my real mother?and should i talk to her to the point so i can avoid her hurting conversation?

ANSWER: She does not have the same rights as your own mother but you should respect her after all she had done for you. You can move out if you want and live with your parents or with your real siblings if you want.

I pray salah but I’m not sure if my wife prays that I know that i am getting married to. If I Pray and she doesn’t is the marriage valid, after marriage I intend to make her pray.

ANSWER: If she doesn’t pray at all, she is not Muslima and the marriage contract is void.

We need to take my sisters wedding just the day after the hajj festival. But we have our family members telling us not to take because a wedding should be taken only after the hajj kutbah is over. Is there a ruling like this??

ANSWER: There is no such ruling in Islam. As long as they are not in the state of Ihram and performing hajj or umrah, they can get married any time of the day or night.

Groom doesn’t want anything from bride nor he is demanding but bride’s parents want to give furniture, car etc. out of their own will and desire as they are financial capable and they feel happy in giving it to groom as part of marriage. Still should groom accept it or reject it.

ANSWER: Dowry is the money given by the groom! If the gift is within reason, he should accept it. But if it is too much such as a car etc, this is dowry! Whatever her parents give her, this is a gift from them to her.

If a person who’s practicing has attached himself to a girl who is not practicing and she is in haram relationship/close to marriage can such person make dua to get married to her or is it transgression in dua?

ANSWER: Such a person can’t be “practicing” while willing to be engaged to such an individual! This falls under the definition of dayyouth. She is not the last woman on earth!

Husband and his siblings share everythin with each other,even the wrongs of their wives,his sister acts like she is their mother advising them about the wrongs of their wives etc, its like they want 2 share every details,husband can’t live without their advices,heard him telling his brothers the wrongs of their wives openly,calling everyday 2 one another constantly, gives me anxiety how 2 deal?

ANSWER: Her husband is sinful for backbiting his wife and she must advise him to act like a man and stop backbiting her in front of others. She must be tactful in her approach and become the one he seeks his tranquility in, in order to put a stop to this.

I got an alliance, where groom is having good aklaq & deen but he’s illiterate, also I can’t maintain mehram thing in his home, his residing place itself a very worst Area. ALHAMDULILLAH I’m a 2 degree holder, accordin to deen he is ok fr me but my fear is tat in future we might get lots of misunderstanding due to his illiteracy. I’m in totally big confusion. ANSWER: What counts is his religious practice and moral conduct. If he has both and is earning well, it doesn’t matter how illiterate he is. If he is unable to provide for you a separate accommodation, this is a good reason to reject him.

My father has been against me practicing my religion completly for a while. I has been against me keeping my beard because he fears I am becoming an extremist. He is threatening me to call the police if I insist (He got physical with me on another occasion). What should I do?

ANSWER: If he is this abusive and has such an attitude against Islam, it is best that you leave the house and go and live somewhere else if you can be independent as this is a form of migrating and running away with your religion.
