My husband sets aside 5% of his income on monthly basis with the intention of charity. Can I use this money to offset debts and bearing other daily expenses of my brother or there is any specific category of people who deserve this charity?

ANSWER: This is your husband’s money and it’s not permissible for you to give it to anyone without his permission. If he permits you to give it to the poor and your brother falls under this category, you may do so.

Is it a Sunnah that the groom does nikah in masjid and the bride at her house? My mom said this when I suggested I can do the nikah in the function hall.

ANSWER: What your mom has said is baseless.

If a couple get a fake divorce letter from shariah court to prove to an international govt that they are not married then go ahead and marry different spouses to gain benefit of residency using that fake divorce letter. What is the status of their real marriage. The fake spouses are both non Muslims but the couple in question are Muslims.

ANSWER: If a man divorces his wife in a sharia court, they are divorced. He can marry a Christian or a Jew only. She can’t marry a non Muslim as this is blasphemous and invalid if she believes it to be permissible.

In terms of wali, neither the father or his siblings are practicing and did not like islam or its teachings as the family have explained. Please could you guide me in terms of what is best to do given my current situation and what steps to take in terms of finding a valid wali as I would like a valid marriage. The girls maternal uncle is practicing and prays, is he able to substitute as a wali?

ANSWER: The woman’s father is her wali until a muslim court or judge gives the verdict that he is not fit to be her wali! You must not believe what the girl or her mother say without proof as they may be lying to override the father’s decision.

ANSWER: If one of the spouses apostatized, the marriage contract is dissolved and becomes invalid and the woman can remarry after her cycle is over.

If a couple got a proper Nikah but the man didn’t pray although he didn’t know the ruling on abandoning salah and assumed himself to be a Muslim, is the marriage valid and are the children that resulted from the marriage legitimate. What if the man had weak general beliefs? What should the kids do if they grew up with and were raised by this figure their whole life?

ANSWER: If he was considered muslim and was not labeled by scholars to be a disbeliever, the marriage is valid but he must pray now or she must leave him if he doesn’t.

My husband give me money to buy groceries for us &kids .but I keep that money with me .I will get groceries from rasion shop (bad quality groceries given by government to the poor freely).if he knows I am giving low quality food to the children and him he will be angry.but I will give that money to needy people without his knowledge .but he used to give me money separately to help.am I sinful?

ANSWER: Of course, you are absolutely sinful! It’s not permissible to use his money in any other way than what he gave it to you for! You are stealing his money and will not be rewarded for any penny you give as it is not yours and it is stolen money!

ANSWER: This is, like all different types of provisions; in the hands of Allah. Many girls get married when Allah wills it. Some marry more than once. Others may marry a married man and accept to be a co wife.
