QUESTION: Some people do Nikah on a day and Valima on the next immediate day and they have feasts for both. But I was told that only Valima feasts is from Sunnah and that Nikah feasts is not from Sunnah. So should we not attend Nikah feasts, sheikh?

ANSWER: No problem in this as long as the father is doing that willingly without the groom’s side forcing or pressuring him to do so.

ANSWER: Only the initial meeting is permissible unless there’s a legitimate reason for a follow up meeting as in the case he is not sure he took a good look.

QUESTION: My parents, the other day has basically given me the ultimatum to choose between them or my husband. They want me to divorce my husband or they will disown me. ANSWER: Don’t pay any attention to what they say about your husband. Choose your husband and be good to him and Allah will hold your parents accountable on the day of judgment for their attempts to destroy your marriage like this!

ANSWER: No. He is not obliged to ask for her permission or to even tell her. However, it is part of being a good husband to tell her or inform her so that her mind would be at ease.

QUESTION: I have heard women asking for verses of Quran as their haq mahar. (sidaaqa in Arabic i guess) I wanted to ask if i can demand from my husband to be that ” You cannot neglect Salah intentionally at any cost plus you have to read the Quran daily with translation , even if it’s one verse” The only intention is to bring my life partner closer to Allah ( SWT) Is it legit to ask??

ANSWER: This is permissible to ask as a condition in marriage but not as a dowry.

QUESTION: I got married without liking the girl, for the sake of my parents. Its been more than 7 months but i still can’t have the feelings I should have for her. ANSWER: You had already ruined her life when you married her in the first place without being able to act like a man and refuse. You must look at the good attributes in her and appreciate her for who she is instead of being focused on leaving her and justifying this with lame excuses!

ANSWER: He can never be her guardian as he is not from her kinship and she doesn’t carry his name. Her guardian is her biological paternal kinship and if they are not known, then the muslim judge or the authorized Muslim Imam becomes her guardian.
