My father passed away last Friday. My mother also passed away last 5.6 years.. after my mother died my father married again.. So my question is what is the responsibility for us to our step mother? Is it our duty to take care her like our mother.if we don’t do that will we be sinner?

ANSWER: You don’t have any duties towards your step mother. However, it’s a good thing if you can check on her to see if she needs anything as she was your father’s wife. But this is not something obligatory upon the stepchildren.

Our close family friends have disrespected my father, and my father has ordered me not to speak with them because of this, though I have grown up with these people and they still continue to contact me. Is it a sin to go against my fathers wishes behind his back and keep contact so no feelings get hurt ?

ANSWER: If they’re not your kinship, no problem in not having a relationship with them if they have disrespected your father. If they are from the opposite gender, it is totally prohibited to be in contact with them even if they were respectful to your father.

I wanted to know that Is obedience to ones parents save oneself from calamities?

ANSWER: Allah mandates that you obey your parents in halal things however, this does not guarantee you safety from calamities.

Shaykh my family has seen a guy fr marriage and it’s not yet confrm n they r yet to come and see me but my parents r excited over it and r telling my uncles n aunties about it.i personally feel that it’s too early n to only say when it’s confrmed.but I like to keep things private .am i allowed 2contradict my parents in this though they want 2 tell their siblings?

ANSWER: There is no problem in asking them to keep it low profile as the Prophet salla allahu alaihi wa sallam has advised to be secretive so that we won’t get an evil eye.

My mother is a house wife she has alot of money. still i bought her a bus ticket for umrah(We live in jeddah) . but she denied she said the person must pay for her umrah if she/he capable of it. And you are my daughter so it’s not on you to pay my umrah expense except my husband or son.

ANSWER: What she said is wrong and baseless. She can accept your gift the same way as she accepts it from her husband or son. There is no difference at all.

ANSWER: Your mother has no right in telling you to sever your contact with your father. You must visit and call him and can do this without telling her to prevent upsetting her.

Is it permissible to seclude oneself from the family inside the house, and avoid mixing much with them to prevent oneself from taking sins esily and to safeguard ones faith?

ANSWER: Dealing justly and with the best manners with one’s family is prescribed in Islam. Avoiding one’s household members without a reason is not permissible. A strong believer who mixes with people and is tolerant to their abuse is better than a muslim who doesn’t.

My father always manages to make my younger brother angry by calling him a failure, a looser, an embarrassment to the family. In the heat of the moment he calls our father a shayateen for always getting him angry. My brother always asks Dua for our parents in his thashahood in his prayer. How can I advice?

ANSWER: This is a major sin and defies being dutiful and respectful to them. They are your gateway to paradise! Preserve this gate or lose it.

My mother gifted my share in my dads wealth to her brother! Sir, I’m mentally and psychologically disturbed by my mother.My mother’s brother owned us money,after my father’s death my mother gifted some of that money to her brother without my constant and asked him to repay some of it back which is a very small a amount monthly.Her betraying us i cant accept it and i want my full share of that money at once. Do I ask her or my uncle?

ANSWER: This is your right and you must ask it from your mother. However, she’s your mother and you must be respectful towards her as she’s your gate to Paradise. Don’t let some petty cash come in the way of gaining Paradise through serving her.
