QUESTION: My mehr is hajj + PKR 200,000. My ex-husband gave divorce last month. In-laws gave the 200,000 but said hajj doesn’t count. They are not paying hajj trip expenses and bullying me to return the gold they gave me on wedding as a gift. The Pakistani institute is not helping with fatwa of hajj as mehr. Can you please give me a fatwa which can help me secure my rights?

ANSWER: This is absolutely prohibited as you both are still non mahram to each other until you sign the marriage contract and you must immediately cut all kinds of communications and contact with her and block her contact from everywhere

ANSWER: No, he’s not right and it’s not permissible for you to break ties with your son. He has no right in ordering you to sever your ties of kinship with your own son !

ANSWER: Are you a doormat? How can you love someone who doesn’t love you and who is in a haram relationship with someone else? Don’t you have any dignity or self respect? How can you love someone who is openly sinning and doesn’t care whether Allah is angry with him or not?

QUESTION: Does Allah take away the barakah in a marriage that started with Haram? Like pre-marital relationship? What if they repent before getting married?

ANSWER: The issue of Barakah is in the hands of Allah. If they repented, felt remorse and asked Allah for forgiveness, the possibility of Allah putting barakah in their marriage is very high

QUESTION: My husband doesn’t take his financial responsibility. He ignores me, gives me silent treatment and insults me and my parents. I have tried to communicate this but nothing. ANSWER: Correct love, Peace and tranquility come through Halal means and something you must continue to work on. It is not generated through premarital relationships and most arranged marriages are filled with genuine real love that developed after the marriage had taken place

QUESTION: The groom has refused dowry, but the bride’s family insists on gifting items out of love as she’s their only daughter. They ask the groom to buy what he can, and they’ll cover anything missing. If it’s not demanded and given willingly as a gift, it’s allowed for the groom to accept it, as long as there’s no pressure or obligation. Intent matters in Islam.

ANSWER: The parents are allowed to give their daughter whatever gift they would like. Any man with dignity would refuse such dowry coming in his name. He must insist that these items belong to his wife and not to him.

ANSWER: This is totally prohibited and called dating! You must not have any communication with nonmahram men.

QUESTION: How can a wife get her husband discplined who physically abuses her. She DOESN’T want divorce because she has kids but at the same time really wants her husband to be disciplined. Can she take him to qadi who will discipline him on her behalf?

ANSWER: If he beats you, you need to get your father and brother involved so that he knows you have men to protect you when needed. If he doesn’t stop, such an abusive husband must be deterred even if by threatening him to call the police.
