It’s said that it’s a great sin if we our relationship with our blood related relatives. My question is if they do harm to us by their behavior that causes severe turmoil in our life what should we do in that case?

ANSWER: This is a test from Allah and the ones who harm and create tensions unnecessarily will be held accountable on the day of Judgement. If you are forgiving and polite in keeping up the relations, you will be rewarded in shaa Allah.

What is meant by “free yourself from shirk and it’s people”. Im a salafi and dont do shirk. But All of my family and relatives are barelvi, even my freinds are barelvi. They are ignorant so i give them the escuse for ignorance and treat them like muslims. What does this mean that i can hang around my family and friends??, what is meant by that statement

ANSWER: A muslim must connect to his kinship while denouncing shirk and its practices in a diplomatic and wise way.

Sheikh, my mom said she wont talk to her sister or contact or anything because her sister doesnt do the same she rarely contacts or visits or asks how she is, is this severing kinsip she said she wont be held accountable cause she wants her sister to feel bad and see that she doing something wrong is this allowed or is she (my mother) in danger for doing this?

ANSWER: No problem in giving Salam when your mahram is around in the same room. But you must not chit-chat or hang around there.

My grandparents and my father’s side relatives dont like me, my brother and my mother too.so what are our duties towards them? And is it compulsory to perform?

I live abroad. So I call my relatives to uphold the ties of kinship only for the sake of Allah. But they do not receive my call. They don’t even reply to my messages where “assalamualaikum” is written. Am I getting rewarded for this? And are they sinful? If I am not being rewarded, I won’t do it anymore.

ANSWER: Yes, you’re rewarded for this. You must continue to try and maintain kinship with them and they’re sinful if they do not reciprocate or initiate.

My brother n his wife have been fighting with my parents for 10 plus years. She is ver manipulative and has completely turned my brother against us like we are his enemy and she causes arguments against us. He treats his parents badly abuse them and his uncles. sheik,our cousin lives with us and my brother is present.she wears hijab but no socks.at home they say she is family.she enters our brothers room and our brother enters the room she stays though she wear hijab without socks.pls sheik are we doing right? I am not happy at all.

ANSWER: She is non-mahram to him and must not mix with him nor communicate freely whatsoever and must abide by the proper hijab at all times. As for socks, the feet are part of her awrah and she must cover it while going out or when in front of non-mahram men.

In order to maintain kinship is it ok to contact head of the family like to call aunt/uncle only for sula rehmi or I’ve to call individually all their children from the family like all my male/female couzins? Male couzins are non mehram for me.And Some of my female couzins are so modern they wont follow islam in dressing,making fun of others. So am I obliged to maintain kinship with such couzins?–

ANSWER: Calling your uncles and aunts is mandatory. Contacting your female cousins is also mandatory but of a lesser degree. You must not have any contact with your male cousins.

My husband wants us to celebrate Eid with his family and said that we will never celebrate Eid with my family as they are non Muslim and they only celebrated Eid for my sake (he meant my family doesn’t want to hurt me so they celebrated it for my sake). Is it wrong to celebrate Eid with my family? Or is it better to celebrate Eid with Muslims?

ANSWER: Do not make it a huge issue, you could host a big get together at your place and invite both the in-laws and your family at the same time. Or You could visit them the next day too. Concentrate on creating a happy atmosphere rather than keeping score.
