A sister wants to know if her sister’s husband is her mahram?

ANSWER: No, he’s not a mahram and she must be fully covered in front of him and it’s not permissible to chit-chat or socialize or hang out when he’s around. My question is that after my marriage, would my father in law be my Mahram? I know for a fact that my brother in laws would be non-mahram, but what about father in law? Can he see my hair?

ANSWER: The father in law is the permanent mahram. Even if his son divorces the woman or if the son dies then also the father in law is a permanent mahram for life for this woman.

I have a daughter with my ex-christian wife before I reverted to Islam. I am now married to a Muslim women. I had problems with my ex-wife but I still love her. We always talk sometimes about my daughter but mostly about other things. I want to know what is my limit with this women since she is my non-mahram. Am I sinning for being too friendly with her

ANSWER: Of course you are sinning! You must not chitchat or socialize or be soft while speaking to her at all and must not speak to her except when truely needed about your daughter.

If someone remarries and has a child from previous marriage (girl- not adult) Can new husband somehow be a mahram for her or an uncle if she is living with mother and new husband? Although her biological father is still alive. If her biological father passes does new husband become mahram? If her mother has sons from new marriage can they also be her mahram (half brothers)?

ANSWER: Step father is a mahram for the step daughters, whether the biological father is alive or dead. The half brothers are of course mahram to her because they share the same mother!

I have a question about mixing with my aunts where I grew up with. They are much older than me (around 40 years). They are the wives of my uncles. Now that I am 22 years old is it permissible to sit with them if my uncle is home. And what about mixing with old women.

ANSWER: If they are your uncles’ wives and not related to you, they are non mahram to you and you must not either mix with them or communicate with them.

What should be the the age of a son or a brother as to be a Mahram(irrespective of his maturity) so that a mother/ sister can travel with him .

ANSWER: No problem in giving Salam when your mahram is around in the same room. But you must not chit-chat or hang around there.

What is the ruling on hugging your paternal anti’s husband in a decent way ? Does Islam allow this if the uncle is about 65 regarding his age ? I am taking about the husband of my father’s sister !

ANSWER: This is absolutely prohibited as he’s a non mahram to you and you must be in complete hijab in front of him and never chit-chat or be casual with him let alone hug him!

Are we allowed to get dinner together on as a family. Parents brothers, sisters and our husbands and wives. Is this harom free mixing as my family is large and like to sit around eachother but my husband says it’s harom.

ANSWER: This is prohibited free mixing.

Usually parents take severe measures to ensure their kids dont mix with the opposite gender in schools and colleges. (Which is understandable) But at the same time they themselves talk and interact with cousins and even distant relatives of the opposite sex in a very casual manner and sometimes with no boundaries. And then they say thay they are “family” so its okay. Isn’t this hypocrisy?

ANSWER: It is not permissible even for them to chit-chat unnecessarily with non mahrams as the rules of Allah are same for everyone.
