QUESTION: Sheikh, is it permissible to lie down during the Friday sermon and maybe even close your eyes whilst listening attentively to the khateeb? Some people find this helps them to concentrate and also helps to block out other distractions.

ANSWER: This is not permissible and it is disrespectful for the prayer, the masjid and the community!

QUESTION: (At home) Can I start praying as soon as I hear the first adhan or do I wait until all the adhans have been called and then start praying?

ANSWER: No need to wait for the athan to finish. You can begin to pray as soon as the time enters, even if the athan is called late.

QUESTION: My mom is about 67, she have problem with knees, back, numb feet is usual stuff due to diabetes, losing balance while bending for washing feet.But she is all fine with water, she goes to washroom of her own etc.For 2-3 years she got this input from her sister for doing the Tayammum and she does it regularly, is it okay?

ANSWER: No, this is not permissible at all when she’s able to use water. Her prayers are invalid

QUESTION: Whenever i pray fard salat i make mistakes. for example starting to recite a sura on the 3rd rakat. Before i used to restart the salat. Now i do sahu sijda since i do not know if it is permissible to stop a salat midway and restart it. Even after Sahu sijda i feel shame and regret. please let me know if there is a way to get rid of saitan’s whispering during salat.

ANSWER: If you read a surah in the 3rd rakah, this is permissible and no need for prostrations of forgetfulness.

QUESTION: My husband took a loan through a bank and invested it with a property dealer (bought plots to sell later). Loan instalment is paid monthly and it’s a four years long procedure. Now it’s been more than a year that we have invested that money. Do we have to pay zakat on that investment and if yes then how to do the calculation as we are still paying the instalments?

ANSWER: No specific intention is required. Any 2 rakah you pray would suffice.

QUESTION: Can I pray tahajjud by staying up all night then pray Fajr prayer and then sleep?

ANSWER: No problem as long as you are able to get up and pray all the rest of the 4 prayers on time and function normally while fulfilling your other day to day responsibilities.

ANSWER: If they are praying in congregation, this is totally prohibited. Women must stand behind men. But if they are praying alone and they are mahram to one another, this is permissible.

QUESTION: Is sitting on the same same spot after fardh prayer is limited to those who pray in masjid or women praying at home also get similar rewards?
