Sheikh , my mother and aunt backbite a lot and i have 1bhk home and nowhere escape, i get to hear their speech, i cant escape.although i hate it but i cant stop them too,..will i be sinful for being in their company, iam worried plz give me any way to escape

ANSWER: There’s a difference between hearing and listening, if you just happen to listen without actually wanting to hear, you’re not sinful. You can wear headphones and listen to the Quran or a lecture. You must however give them dawah about it’s prohibition but with diplomacy, good manners and wisdom.

Sheikh, I’m from Russia. Have to contact with the kuffār permanently. My kāfir relatives and acquaintances often complain to me about other kuffār. Like “B. is so bad. You know what he did?” etc.. This has no sense cause it’s not of my business, and I can’t help them. Is backbiting forbidden only regarding Muslims or is it forbidden regarding the kuffār as well?

ANSWER: Yes, it’s not allowed to backbite the non muslims as well.

I have a question with regards to sharing any think about any one with my husband. Like can i tell him about one or the matter between to different people if i know.as he is my husband i want share with him the talk of others with no bad intension.like of i got hurt due some ones talk. Can i tell him about this or its gheebath.

ANSWER: If he knows who you are talking about and they don’t like you talking about them, this is backbiting.

Is it becomes gheebah if I tell my friend’s tragic life story as it is with my another friend, without adding anything extra or without telling anything bad about her?? Is it permissible?

ANSWER: If your friend wouldn’t approve of you sharing her story with others, this would be backbiting.

Many people in family backbites a lot, beacause of which i am surrounded by backbiting environment whole day, if i ask them to stop backbite they would say its not backbiting, many times i found them backbiting when i am praying..its very difficult to avoid but i try to avoid as much as possible, am i sinful if they backbite in front of me,should i make distance with them?

ANSWER: You must remind them that backbiting is a major sin in Islam and leave their company until they speak of something else. As long as you have done this, you have done your duty and are not sinful in sha Allah.

Is this right that doing backbiting of someone all of this bad deeds written in your deeds book and all of your good deeds written in his deeds book..plz do clarify this??

ANSWER: This is not true. He will take SOME of your good deeds in exchange for your sins against him.

Sheikh, In my company there are many employees and usually we talk to each other about the other employees work related performance,usually its negative comments related to work,is this backbiting,Eg:”This manager is very lazy as he didnot submitted document yesterday which caused delay”

ANSWER: This is backbiting. Only when supervisors talk about an employee to assess him or to train him that this won’t be backbiting and in similar cases.

If my parents backbite after advising them before can I walk out of the room to show them that I’m not happy with this? Maybe they would understand? I know this might not be the most respectful thing but with parents you can’t correct them straight away. You have to give them time and be patient. I can’t bear to listen. &with backbiting I’m sinful for listening to maybe this action can be useful.

ANSWER: You must change the subject but even after this if they continue to backbite, you must leave the room and this is not disrespectful as you’re supposed to follow Allah’s rules first.

Is listening to the news as sinful as listening back biting in case where it is talking about an individual or a particular group of individual?
