Can i give my zakat to my aunty (father’s sister) so she can do umrah. she is not married she does not has father and brother… We live together and share the expenses. It means can i give money in order to assist her to do umrah not giving all money but as mush as my zakat?

ANSWER: Zakat must be given to a poor or needy Muslim in the form of cash. If she is not classified as poor or needy, giving her from your zakat is not permissible. Going to Umrah is not mandatory for a poor person nor it is recommended if he can’t afford it

In UAE ( ABU DHABI ) khutabah is in Arabic language and translation is available on UAE WEBSITE , is it permissibale we can read the translation while imam is giving khutbah in arabic for understanding

Sheikh, i need to pay my zakat for last ramadan till date. i am paying my zakat to one of my relatives who are very much needy. by giving them monthly expenses. I have 2 lands, which are barren and empty. i myself living in rented house. Kindly advice whether i need to pay zakat for my both lands.

ANSWER: Firstly, one must pay his zakat exactly when it’s due and not on monthly basis. They can however pay their zakat in advance of the following year. Secondly, there’s no zakat on land, unless you put it for sale.

sheikh, we know that after crossing the threshold the money has to stay with us for a whole year but with in this time what if the money 1) increases or 2) decreases but not below the threshold. can you please expain what happens in these two instances?

ANSWER: It is very difficult to keep track of all of this throughout the year. Therefore, it is best to set a date in the lunar calendar and whenever this date is due, you look at your savings and give 2.5% as zakat, regardless when the money came into your possession.

Sheikh all masjid of my area gives asr azaan approx. 40-45mnts late from its right time.. in this manner should i wait for the azaan or to perform the salaat before the late azaan..

ANSWER: You can pray as soon as the time for asr has entered. Follow the Umm Al Qura time table.

Sheikh, is it true that when ever we enter the masjid, before sitting we have pray two rakahs of salah? when do we actually have to do it?

ANSWER: Yes, these two rakas are called tahiatul masjid. One is not allowed to sit before praying it. However, if one joins the congregation immediately without sitting or offers sunnah of a prayer first, this exempts him from these two Rakah of tahiyatul masjid.

During the the salat Al-Istikhara, is it permissible to say the specific dua in french?

ANSWER: This is not permissible. You must recite the dua of istekhara in Arabic only. If you don’t know how to say it and can’t even read it from a paper, it is permissible to read it in your native language.

we do pay full amount of jakat but this time the full amount has not been payed till now (for the last Ramadan) what is the last time to pay the rest?can we pay it after this Ramadan including the amount of we have to pay for this fiscal year.

ANSWER: You are sinful every single day for delaying it! Zakat must be given on the spot without any delay once it is due.

In our mosque people don’t want to pray filling the gaps between them…..in each row 20 people can stand but instead 12 people stand….if I want to fill the gap the one beside my right and my left stop me….none wants to come from the row behind to fill the gap….so should I stretch my legs and increase the distance between the two legs in order to fill the gap

ANSWER: You must stand normally without stretching your feet apart! Simply move towards the person next to you to the direction of the Imam as the sin lies on the other person who refuses to come closer to you.

There is an organization in Pakistan that is working with an organization in Turkey to deliver Food Packages and Kitchen sets to the Syrian refugees. Each box cost Rs. 1750 (either for food package or kitchen set). Can we use a portion of our Zakat to fund those food packages?

ANSWER: If it is a reliable charitable organization and you trust that they would give it to the poor and needy Muslims, this seems permissible.
