It is permissible to give salam if you are sure that you will not cause fitnah in the heart of these people. if both of you are alone, you should not give salam.

Sheikh, what are the Islamic teachings concerning greeting salaam to non mahram, like my aunt’s husband or other?

Someone once told me that if someone comes to claim a seat you are sitting on, it should be given to him. And if anyone offer a seat already seated on, it should not be taken. Sheikh is this true?
