The wife is not obliged to pay a penny in the house or to pay any bills. This is the sole responsibility of the husband. If he manages to provide for both houses, this is permissible. Otherwise, it is not permissible for him to take a second wife.

The first wife is entitled to file for divorce on the basis that he is not providing for her and her children. 

QUESTION: What’s the ruling on marrying a 2nd wife if a person cannot even provide proper shelter, food, clothes for the first wife and his children, including their education?
