if I am wearing a purse/abaya/khimar in a particular color or design that I don’t feel is odd or flashy, but another woman tells me she likes the color or she likes the design on me, does this mean that what I am wearing is too attractive and hence, not permissible?

For a woman, you can wax your armpits, legs and arms providing you don’t expose your awrah to other women! If you do that yourself, this is permissible.

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever wears a garment of fame and vanity, Allaah will dress him in a garment like it on the Day of Resurrection.” How can this hadeeth be applicable today? Is wearing Gucci haraam?

No, this is not what was intended by the hadeeth! If a person wears a weird colored clothes or ride a really weird car that he becomes famous and people point at him due to that, whether due to its value or cheapness, this is part of seeking fame with it!

Which means I can wear anything I like, such as loose, full-length skirts and long blouses or my country’s common dress resembling the Indo-Pak shalwar-kameez-dupatta combination, provided of course that it meets all Hijab requirements and is not going against the normal clothing worn by the people of that land…yes? And that an abaya is not absolutely required to be worn, if these conditions of clothing are met?

Due to growing religious consciousness and spread of knowledge via religious sermons across the country, my relatives who used to dress in our common shalwar kameez and sarees but with modifications to fit Islamic hijab requirements are increasingly beginning to adopt the black abaya and headscarf combination of clothing in public. While it is commendable and/or preferable, is it right as some learned ones claim that the abaya is ‘the dress of Muslim women’ and that one must always be clothed in it in public? Is it not true that one may wear any style or colour of clothing provided the requirements of Hijab are met and that there is no need to adopt a uniform ‘dress code’ as such when we have not been commanded anywhere in the Quran or the Sunnah to do so? Kindly clarify.

May I know if a woman has all along put on the niqab face veil before marriage and when she got married her husband ask her to take off the face veil. Should she listen to her husband n take it off it she can say no as she has all along wear the niqab.? Is it a sin if she do not listen to her husband request?

A non muslim asked me what the dresscode for non muslim women would be like in a country where the shariah is fully implemented. Is it the same as the dresscode for muslim women (hijab+ abaya), or do they have a different dresscode? I read that the jews and christians had to cover themselves, because their religion teaches this, what if the religion they follow doesn’t have a particular dresscode?
