QUESTION: Some Muslim brothers work in construction or other manual labor jobs. When it is time for prayer, they go directly to the mosque wearing their work clothes, which may be very dusty, dirty, or have a strong odor from work. Since we stand shoulder to shoulder during congregational prayer, some people nearby may become distracted or uncomfortable. What is the Islamic ruling in this situation? Should these brothers still come to the mosque if they have no opportunity to change or clean up first, or would it be better for them to pray elsewhere to avoid disturbing others? Also, what is the responsibility of the other worshippers toward them?

ANSWER:
They must not make the masjid dirty or harm others with their odor
The prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam prohibited a person who had consumed onions or garlic to enter the masjid so that he wouldn’t annoy other worshipers.
