This is not permissible to specifically make Friday night special for ibadah. Most probably these are tablighi people and you should avoid them.

QUESTION: My local masjid(Uk) have weekly(Thursday)gathering named IJTIMA (sunnah inspired) to share Islamic knowledge. Also congregational adhkar, dua and meal at end. Is there any evidence for this ? Is this even permissible?
