You are not sinful at all! In fact they’re the sinful ones and doing zulm & oppression against you! You can take them to court and complain to the police if you wish as they don’t have any right in asking you to pay for your husband’s debt as this gold is yours and not his. 

QUESTION: My inlaws kept my gold with them for “safety purposes” and when I demanded my gold back they refused to give the part which my husband gifted me saying that he still owes some money to them and wouldn’t give me until it is paid. They say it is their right to possess whatever my husband owns. Am I sinful for asking it back?
