ANSWER:

Yes, her father (guardian) needs to know the mahr and this must be registered in the marriage contract and the witnesses must also know about it. 

QUESTION: Is it a must for the guardian of the girl to know the mahr for marriage. What if girl wants something of less value as it’s her marriage but the father wants high value expensive. How can we surpass this? Does the mahr need to have witnesses?
