There is a difference between a gift and what a child needs.

She may buy your infant brother or sister diapers while she doesn’t do that for you. 

She may buy you a dress because you are in the marrying age and need to look in a certain way while visiting people while she doesn’t need to to do that to your sister

QUESTION: Prophet Muhammad( Peace be upon him) told us to treat our children equally. My mother gave me a dress as a gift. But she didn’t give my little sister any gift. She was sad. Am I or my mother a sinner for this act?
