Why do they give it to you to read it in the first place?

If its for khatam Quran etc then it’s not permissible for you to be part of such a gathering as it’s an innovation.

QUESTION: Someone had given me some Qur’anic portion to read ,a sipara or maybe Panj Surah,and I told them that I had read it, thinking I would read it later. But I forgot what exactly they gave me and I didn’t read it. This has happened more than once. If I sincerely repent and ask Allah for forgiveness, will I be forgiven?
