ANSWER:

The problem is with your understanding and not with what they had said.

They are saying they found benefit or understanding from the ayah, they read it, pondered upon it, and implemented it in their lives, thus benefiting from it, something every Muslim must do. No one has ever said that the Quran is abstract or rigid that it has only one meaning to it and that is it till the end of time. It is a book of miracles and we benefit from it in all positivity as we go on in life. 

QUESTION: I often hear scholars saying they derived a benefit from an ayah. What does this mean? I have firm belief that nothing can be added to the religion. Also does it mean that they have found something that the Prophet peace be upon him or the Sahaaba or righteous before them didn’t know?
