What you did by sitting immediately as soon as you realised was the right thing to do, however you should have done sujood as sahu after salam and not before. Your prayer is valid though.

QUESTION: While praying 2 rakah of sunnah prayer, By unconsciously I stood up directly for 3rd rakah n recited surah fatiha then while standing i remembered my mistake of praying extra so immediately i seated down to tashahud n then did sujood as sahw before salaam. So what I did is correct or do I need to finish that 3rd rakah properly even though i remembered?
