There weren’t anyone they could pin out and accuse of slandering her as no one came forward and they were all careful not to be exposed.

QUESTION: When the gossip about aisha was spreading, i dont understand why didnt the prophet apply the penalty to the slanderer since he didnt have witnesses to prove the claim? Why did the prophet have to wait for Allah to reveal it, wouldnt it be enough that aisha testifies her innocence? Kindly explain this please
